Political analyst, writer and Radio 702 presenter, Eusebius McKaiser speaks to Zahira Asmal, founder and director of The City about cultural iconography and public memory, in relation to her work for the See project. Listen to the podcast from 702.
“South Africa has been labelled the protest capital of the world and service delivery protests have risen exponentially in recent years. Many of these protests have turned violent, exposing the raw frustration and anger felt by residents. They are demanding to be seen and heard, not only in relation to vital services, but also in representation in the public life of our cities. If people are suitably and democratically represented in the public life of the city, they will strive to make positive contributions to the future developments of the city.”
